First Church of Religious Science Vallejo supports positive global transformation through personal transformation.

At First Church, we teach people how to have a life that works.

“The Science of Mind is the study of Life and the nature of the laws of thought; the conception that we live in a spiritual Universe; that God is in, through, around and for us.”
- Dr. Ernest Holmes

What is Science of Mind?

Science of Mind is the core teaching of Religious Science (Centers for Spiritual Living). The Science of Mind is a philosophy that integrates spiritual truths with science and physics. Simply put, Religious Science teaches the unity of all life. Intentions and ideas flow through a field of consciousness, which actually affects and creates the world around us. This idea is common to most major religions and is supported by the teachings of psychology and quantum physics.

In Science of Mind, we believe that the secret to living a successful life is to consciously choose positive and productive thoughts. Put another way, “As you think, so you become.”  It is the intention of the Centers for Spiritual Living (and the First Church of Religious Science, Vallejo) to use Science of Mind principles as a force for good in our world by transforming personal lives.

Are Religious Scientists Christian?

A Christian by definition is one who:
1. Believes in Jesus Christ
2. Follows his teachings

In the traditional sense, we are not considered as "Christian" because we do not claim the man Jesus as our “Lord and Savior.”  However, we do believe in his teachings; in fact, the Science of Mind textbook is based upon Jesus' teachings.

Ernest Holmes, the Founder of Religious Science, called himself and later his organization "Christian," but defined true Christianity as adherence to the specific teachings of Jesus on forgiveness, loving one another, prayer "in faith believing," and God as a loving Father rather than cruel disciplinarian.

He rejected all notions of duality, of opposing good and evil forces. We believe in the unity and oneness of all life and the power and self-determination of the individual.

Does Science of Mind Believe in Jesus?

In Religious Science, we believe that Jesus was a loving, powerful man who walked the earth two thousand years ago. Jesus was a Master Teacher and a great example of how to live as the individual expression of God. In Religious Science and Science of Mind, the phrase “Christ Consciousness” is used to refer to a universal principle of God expressing through humanity. Jesus was the great example of fully living our divine potential, our “Christ Consciousness.”  Everyone has this potential.

According to our denomination's founder, Dr. Ernest Holmes, “Religious Science does not deny the divinity of Jesus; but it does affirm the divinity of all people."
